Indulges – Reflections: How communications change people

Say “hi” and for the most part people smile back at you. Stare without looking and you’re deemed witchy, mean, negative.

Make a comment on the day and reactions are all over the place. Someone is bound to disagree, even vehemently disagree. Worse, they may ask that uncomfortable impossible question you know is a trap so you remain quiet.

Then there’s the incoming email that sends you rocking into the dumps of all dumps. Does anyone dare suggest you read it wrong?

Let’s not forget the non-reply email you’ve never received to thank you for answering the dumping email.

Communicating with each other used to take weeks via carefully thought out letters. Courtesy when face to face. A polite, volume controlled voice calling at a reasonable time…not meal hours.
