Poet/Artist: Slowing down the process

I picked up my pencil and sketchbook again and the first thing I did was rush. I pushed through determined to get the item drawn. The results were exactly what you’d expect – lousy. I erased it close to a dozen times before I accepted I had a good start. A start.

Writing a story is about, for me, the excitement of the adventure. The adrenaline is at its highest even when I’m screaming a scene won’t work.

Artwork? I’m a complete newbie. The starter level. This medium is for my eyes – I share in order to nudge me. I know my limits. But, by taking it slow I improve. I stop the writing racing thoughts and relax. Slowing down is when I grow.

Poetry? I’ve written fast and furious; smooth and easy; slower than a snail in molasses. It’s a release for my emotions. An outlet to let go; to express what’s too much to hold inside. It saves me from using the bail money.

Slow down. Read and look at what you’re creating and cherish the process.
