Favourite Character(s)

I would like to thank everyone for commenting on character vs. story. It is true we need both for a full, engaging, and entertaining read.

Whether specific or general who is/are your favourite character(s)?

I enjoy Mickey Spillane as much as I enjoy Louis L’Amour’s Sacketts. I like meeting up with Qwill from “The Cat Who…” series and then hopping over and spending time with Alex Cross or Lincoln Rhyme.

Sherlock Holmes is a tad formal, but a good match when reading Perry Mason or Brother Cadfael.

And speaking of the dear Brother, have you met Sister Fidelma? I got my father hooked on her before he passed away.

I’m sorry to say I have not managed Tolkien’s world, yet (loved the movie versions, maybe there’s hope for me). However, I do enjoy escaping with Terry Brooks and his Shannara and Magic Kingdom creations. And I cannot forget the world of Pern and her flying dragons.

And the list goes on with Father Brown, Pamplemousse, Mrs. Jeffries, Anita the Vampire Bounty Hunter, Warshawski and Spenser. Oh, how can I not include Mycroft Holmes and Lestrade?

My list goes on and on, I haven’t even started with those characters I cherish through my reviewing library. Both paper copies and electronic.

Without a doubt blame clearly lies with my parents for putting Dr. Seuss, Trixie Beldon, The Hardy Boys, and dear Nancy Drew in my childhood library. You’ll have to thank Miss Ainsworth for introducing me to the Famous Five.

Why are these my favourites? Why so many? I haven’t a clue. All I did was open their pages and climbed in, guess I never left.

P.S. No, I did not forget Harry Potter or the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe or the multitude of fairy tales…oh no I better stop while I can.

  1. I love some of the same characters you mention like Quill, Alex Cross,Sherlock Holmes, and grew up on Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. I have to add Kinsey Milhone from Sue Grafton, Christy from Catherine Marshall, Joe from Little Women, as well as many others.

    They are like friends.
