For the record, I’m 63.
In today’s news there was a tragically sad story of a car accident killing a ninety-year old by an eighty-year old. Charges were laid. Don’t misunderstand me, this case is devastating for everyone and I would want someone to pay if the ninety-year old was my family.
However, this is the crazed thought that went through my writer’s mind…jealousy? One kills another in order to get someone else. One kills someone who “stole” their partner. Someone kills a stranger for being…too slow…too distracted…too fast…perceived cut-off…perceived anything. What’s too old for this to happen? Is there a cut-off age?
Haven’t we all heard the excuse…they’re just kids, the don’t know, understand, any better? Haven’t we also heard…they’re old enough to know better…they’re too old for…any situation?
Look, I wouldn’t seek revenge or fight this insanely for my husband, at any age, but that doesn’t mean someone else might. Would we believe this in any book, movie? Why not?
Then again, wouldn’t it be fun to read any of these storylines with characters our own age? Think of how you would change up this standard storyline with the experience and knowledge we’ve supposedly gained. What if we haven’t gained anything and are the same mindset as we were when younger? How would a jealous, egotistical, selfish being act, able to act, in an aged body and ability?
Something to think about…in a writer’s mind.
