Here’s one I generated while driving on 495: I saw a dead animal in the median on my left — could only see part of the body, which was white with large brown spots. A short distance later I passed a mattress on the right. “This would make a great prompt if I happened to be teaching creative writing,” I thought. “Write a story with a body and a mattress.”
By the time I arrived, I’d written a flash piece. The mattress became a blanket. It may be the beginning of a novel — in fact, it feels like one. I’m about to write a bit more — what happens when they return inside.
