Hoping just not to get caught?

If you’ve reached this spot, thank you for sticking it out. This is not a rant or rave or whatever. I’m just confused.

Over the last couple of months I’ve noticed and have experienced more and more people who are shocked, defensive, and angered when they’ve been caught or called on for THEIR wrong, neglectful, unacceptable, rule-breaking behaviours.

Seriously?  Are they all this because:

1…were called on for this
2…more ____ because they were caught…and called on it
3…believe they are exempt, above the rest, have the right to be doing/saying/acting/whatever

Then there’s personal interactions. Here’s my direct experience today…well at this moment’s writing.

I received a phone call from some stranger, male, who asked if I was Ms. Speakman. He’s from some mumbled name, St. Joe’s. Next words floored me “please confirm your date of birth?”

HUH??

Why?

Said aggressive voice…I cannot tell you until you confirm your date of birth.

HUH?  Ahhh, no.  Who are you?

Mumbled again, St. Joe’s.

This goes back and forth ending with me saying he could have picked the name St. Joe’s out of the phonebook. I’m not giving my personal data to some stranger over the phone.

Louder, more aggressive voice continues…I’ll call back when you’re willing to cooperate…then slams the phone on me. Who knew you could still slam a phone when most are push button anymore.

Go forward about twenty minutes…seems a $45 bill from April 2014 was sent to a collection agency (rude male). From the local ambulance service.

What bill??  Never received the original.  OHHHH, it’s marked in the accounts file “returned.”  By a neighbour, someone somewhere else, by postal people?

HUH? So in a whole year you don’t try sending another…never once thinking maybe it was delivered to wrong address by the carrier?  Never once call…in a whole year?  I’ve never ever ever been called by a collection agency. Have never been late with any payment.

So, again…wondering about people:

1…why no phone call to see if moved address
2…why no second bill sent
3…a whole friggin year?
4…I know collections are met with some nasty responses (know people who worked there) but what happened to common politeness and respect

Moving on…

I know people who ride motorcycles. I know other vehicle drivers who don’t pay these bikes much attention. I’ve seen vehicle blind-hogs and I’ve seen bike blind-hogs.

But let’s take the rage and get some perspective.

Again, just today (this writing’s) A damn car and its fool driver “fly” through the complex’s internal roadway, right behind is a stereotype bike rider (big guy, leathers, full bushy beard, okay, my stereotype biker). Biker flys after the car.

From maybe seven houses away…which includes a bend taking them out of sight and bringing the houses between my bedroom window and them…I can hear the raised voices. Can see the high schoolers at the bus looking in hope of a fight.

Then bike guy rides out…not flying, but not quite slow enough for an internal roadway.

Really?

Whatever the car did…didn’t do? Was a vocal p*ssing match necessary? Take the license number, report driver for reckless driving and let cooler heads look after it.

So why this writing? What’s the point?

I just don’t get people lately. No one is perfect. Certainly not me. We all have our push-buttons…I know I have mine.  But why the heck are so many people…ohhh, just see above. I have an headache from all the shaking of my head and banging it on the desk.

I couldn’t write this in a story and be believed.
