Years ago, I laughed when I heard my high school was offering photography as a credited course. Really, taking pictures was worth a credit like English or Math?
Oh so naïve…and snobby.
At that point in my life I saw the camera as a tool to capture pictures for memories. Point and click, have someone else develop the final product.
Maybe it was meeting the husband, who had a darkroom, that started changing my view? Composition mattered. Lighting mattered. The creative eye needed turning on.
Now I’m taking pictures of whatever strikes my eye. Using the digital ability to zoom and centre on parts that change the view, new bits that differ from the whole.
What was just a recording machine has become a new medium of inspiration and creative outlet.
