Do you know how many ways there are to spell: Chris or Christine?
I’ve seen “K” “y” instead of “i” with and without “h” and mixes of them all. But, they are still pronounceable.
I like individual names…I won’t say unique because when I’ve thought that I end up finding another, so not quite unique. Yes, my daughter is named after some strong ladies in my life, but her name is compounded to make it her own. Nope, not unique, played online poker with someone with same exact name and spelling. Imagine that surprise…not that I was going for unique.
Ahh, the spelling. Many mispronounce my daughter’s name because of its Welsh spelling. Understandable, if not tiresome, which she can blame me for.
See, I’m not opposed to different names, cultural names, even alien names for science fiction or fantasy characters. But, please make them pronounceable without all the fancy accent markings and multiple double, triple vowels, and please don’t purposely make it read misspelled.
If I have to spend twenty minutes trying to figure out how to mentally say the character’s name, well I’m calling her/him/it…George.
