I know I told you I’ve rarely been scared by a book, but that’s doesn’t mean I haven’t read a scary book. It’s all in your definition of scary. We all have expectations when we pick up a book. If you’ve picked up a vampire book…yes, I’m going there…you expect a certain story and emotional reaction. Well, I have two authors for you which gave me a different story from what I expected and every new and different road is scary.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula. A classic, yes, one that isn’t the vampire story we’ve come to know. This is truly a love story with immense darkness. A battle for true love at all costs. The scene through the forest, wild with wolves, is my favourite. Sitting on my bookshelf is the planned sequel which ended up being written by Stoker’s great-grandnephew. I want to read it, but I’m scared it won’t be good enough, even though it is supposedly written based on found notes. The crazy part of this all, due to reviews I’m not that keen on rushing to read it because I don’t want to be disappointed.
Have you read Brian Lumley’s Necroscope series? Go now and find every single book and lose yourself in this world. I can’t even begin to share the storylines. I don’t want to give a single detail away. Read and I doubt you’ll ever forget this world…and that’s what makes this scary.
It’s scary when a book won’t leave your memory. When you can flashback to a scene and relive your first reading.
Those scares I love.
