We all want the truth and believe we are telling the truth, but why then do we sugar-coat, cushion, and cover up our words when sharing the ‘truth’? We hide behind reasons and excuses. We fight to get responses changed. Close our ears when we don’t want to look inside ourselves and see through another’s eyes.
My dad always said “there’s my truth; your truth; and somewhere in the middle – the truth.”
Being honest, I try to walk the middle but it’s not easy. There’s always something that moves me to ‘shade’ the full un-opinioned truth. Mostly, protecting someone’s feelings – mine and theirs. Other times it’s a matter of picking battles – which ones are worth the time and energy. Truth can resemble a toddler wanting a fifth cookie.
No, we can’t handle the truth cause we really don’t want the whole bluntness of it.
