This May 26, 2015 hubby and I will be married twenty-five years. Our first date was May 27th 1988…well, our official date of dating each other, that is.
We met via our friend Tracy.
I knew her through working on the same floor of an office building. Phil through the love of driving…a story for her own telling. Tracy thought it would be a good idea we meet and invited me to one of the group’s Sunday Brunches.
I have to admit, I’ve never experienced a 3…or was it 4…hours of eating and laughter like I did that day. But it was the obvious fireworks watching that topped the night. Let’s just say a tad obvious, but it brought more shared laughter with Phil.
The nicknames Chipper and Bubbles are still another story for another time.
Life brought many changes to our friendship, but without it we would not have married nor have had our daughter. A child that was due Christmas Day but waited until she could share Tracy’s birthday this January 5th.
Tracy knows this mother’s heart all to well. We now live in different countries, but when I was in the hospital waiting for gallbladder surgery it was Tracy, a mom herself, who called to ease my fears. My baby was only two and I was afraid. Surgery is scary on its own, but as a new mom, after so many years of trying, I was petrified. That one simple phone call gave me everything Phil and my parents couldn’t.
Who knew, all those years ago, how one chance meeting would map my life.
Thank you, Tracy.
Happy birthday now and for all the years to come. Keep smiling and laughing.
That was lovely. Lois and I celebrate the anniversary of our first day, and it's great to have good friends like Tracy to celebrate (and work through) the milestones, good and bad.
