I had a different idea for this day’s posting; however, the words never arrived. As much as I tried to push through the idea, it fought back and never pulled itself together.
Now, that’s fine and dandy when it’s your own blog posting or your own fictional story. Doesn’t matter if you change your mind or topic. You’re the boss and in control. But, it sure doesn’t help if you’re writing something for money or a paper for class or a business report. Fighting the words just makes the job harder and the headache worse.
With a story, you can move on to a different section or let the words that are coming fill the page and see where the idea takes you. Here and now, well, I took the fight and wrote about it.
Guess what? The words are actually flowing easily. The idea and movement of thought are working with me…or I’m working with them.
But how do you work them when it’s like rolling a boulder uphill? I like how my high school English teacher explained essays…intro – bring the question; middle – prove the question; end – tie it all up. Or something like that, been a few decades.
A business report…gather the facts; put together in order; fill in the blanks. Pretty precise and boring.
If what you’re writing is for money…depends on what you’re writing. It’s all pretty much the same…gather the points/facts/scene/characters; put them in order; toss in some blank fillers (BS is what we called it for high school essays); and then tie everything up in a nice bright bow and write:
The End.
