is when an author reconnects with you about their new book and asks if you’re interested.
The trust authors, publishers, and even PR representatives have in me is valuable. Even being late/delayed in getting reviews written, I’m humbled by their requests. Their understanding of life’s interruptions and accepting my word that I will get one written is not to be taken for granted.
There is quite a bit of internet talk about arguments between reviewers and authors, some very heated and nasty arguments. Thankfully, I have not had any. That’s not to say I’ve never had an awkward conversation with an author when I haven’t mixed with their book, of course, I have. At that point we have reached the understanding that I am one voice. A voice that refuses to trash their work.
Last week? Week before? I was contacted by an author I reviewed years ago, his series still plays in my memory. He has a new publisher and informed me that there’s a final book that should clear up the parts of the last one I reviewed and didn’t quite like, can’t wait to read it. And to offer new information on where you can now find his series.
He’s not the only one who has kept in touch.
These emails boost my energy. They give my self-confidence a much needed lift. It reaffirms that what I have chosen to undertake matters and isn’t just something for me.
To all authors and reviewers, working together and keeping communications active is the best part of our craft.
Thank you.
