Creativity Requires Food

Now for some silliness…wait, food is not silliness, never is my need for writing snacks silliness. Well, yeah, maybe.

Right now, yes, this very moment, I’m sitting with candy corn, semi-sweet chocolate chips mixed with sweet coconut flakes, salted sunflower seeds, dried pineapple bits, and candy heart circles. The fuzzy sour peaches and raisins are still downstairs. Don’t forget my pepsi.

I’m in a mentally mad dash of insanity. I require wild and wacky and really bad for me snacks. I don’t want smart food. Smart food is for when I’m settled and concentrating…when I’m sane (yes there are times I’m sane).

Just as writing is a dash of this, a smidgen of this, sometimes an over indulging of that, and wicked evilness, my quick picks of snacks needs to fit what I’m working on.

I do snack on fruits and veggies, too. But, they require more thought and time in preparing and eating…and appreciation. Last night’s apple was soooo good. It was crisp, the right level of tart, juicy and firm. It screamed…time, take time, savour me, worship me.

Today’s sunflower seeds are a bunch of fast-paced munch-munch keep up with the thought process poppers. Chocolate…brain food. Dried pineapple…it’s fruit, right?

Candy corn? Well, uhm, yeah, they’re just pure sugar sin.

Now, don’t leave me hanging here alone…what food feeds your creativity.

  1. Muesli dunked in ice-cold plain yoghurt…. mmmmmm. Carrots (the local ones not the plastic ones from overseas). Nuts, any kind…
    Fresh coconut chunks…

  2. Ooh, great post! I swear, I love munching on protein bars (the really good kind, chocolate, by Special K) – it helps me think! They're also healthy, which is a plus. 😉 You've got me craving sunflower seeds!!

  3. Adriana…haven't tried those, might have to. As soon as I read the sunflower seeds I had to reopen the container LOL. Found the sugar rush slowed me down and relaxed me to concentrate more 🙂

  4. Becca, I tried popcorn and yeah, the butter messed my keyboard up and besides it's hard to type and eat popcorn…need all brain cells working on the popcorn. Dry cereal…have done that Apple Cinn Cheerios..tootsie rolls, yup but well, won't say the results of too many of them LOL

  5. Hi, my name is Michelle and I'm a Reese's peanut butter cup addict. I can't seem to write without one…bag. And don't even ask about when rejections start rolling in.

My addiction is so bad the store clerk knows me by name and just hands me a bag when I walk in.

I'm trying to get off the peanut butter cups and switch to twizzlers. I blame that to my recent bout of writer's block. So tonight, I'm back on the peanut butter cups!

  6. Thanks, Michelle. I know. When I'm writing, food has an impact on my speed and thought processes…almost taming it to a level I can keep up with.
