I was going to ask a different question; however, considering it is my favourite day – Friday the 13th….are you superstitious?
Me? Birds in the house, not because I believe it means someone is about to die, but because I know the silly creatures are searching me out just to poop on my head. Hey, you would, too, if you’ve been used as a bird toilet as many times as I have.
Then, again, I had an Italian friend tell me that Friday the 13th is a lucky day for Italians?
Come on…what about you? What serious or silly superstition has its hold on you?
Hmm? Superstitions? I might have used one or two for a story. Which one has a hold on me? My grandfather's. He was Irish and 3 knocks on the wall at night indicates Death is coming. I heard them, my grandfather heard them, he died soon after. Made me a believer.
Of course, now I have created my own legend in a short story which I then used in a novel. "The Conquistador" was the start of the legend. My NaNoWriMo novel "I'htha" was based on the legend. That was fun.
This year's NaNo, I'm writing mainstream fiction based on facts and legends and possibly superstitions, depending on where one's head is. Talk about tieing mis-matches together: Stonehenge, Garden of Eden, Cain and Abel, Gobelki Tepe, Greece and possibly Lake Michigan.
I'm not superstitous. I don't walk under ladders, but that's because its dangerous and there could be somebody at the top and they could drop something on my head.

For me, Friday the 13th is just another day. No extra problems or spoookiness.
I admit to being superstitious. I still freak out if my husband puts new shoes on the table when we come home from a shopping trip. Saturday 14 is somehow usually worse for me than Friday 13 though.
What I find interesting is those superstitions that I have that are different to other people's. I grew up with the belief that a black cat crossing my path was incredibly lucky and still think so.
I've actually seen a lot of blog posts wishing good luck for today. It's interesting to see both sides. Myself, I'm not superstitious. Have a great weekend.
Thank you for dropping by and staying. My Irish Great-Grandmother would have a fit if anyone put new shoes on a table. It's probably because of her my family has so many superstitious tales.
Me, I just decided to look at Friday the 13th as a good lucky day. It was years later I learned others thought this, too.
Up here in Ontario, Friday the 13th is known as biker day up at Port Dover. That's a small community where anyone who loves bikes meet. Great foot long hot dogs.
I love black cats and won't walk under ladders cause I know something will land on me.
Bob, you really are going to make me look up her books now aren't you. Love legend tales, thanks for reminding me.
