…why my daughter likes me doing it.
She notices how it calms me. I’m a stronger version of myself and I’m less irritable. I remember who I want to be.
Taking those few early morning moments for myself in silence is amazing. The transition from waking to the mess of the upcoming day’s needs is smoother when you stop and actively regroup.
We don’t take enough breath breaks during our days, especially when just starting the day. We start going and keep going because – why? When did going still and quiet become a weakness? A nothing?
Yes, there’s many who know it’s vital, the meditation or prayer-time. The yoga is more than exercising. The sitting on a park bench is saving our sanity. But, here’s to those who need the nudge and the nudge from my daughter who benefits from me taking the nudge to take the time.
She’s witnessed how this act benefits all aspects of my life and hers. She doesn’t meditate, but maybe she will one day because she’ll remember my why and the results.
You might not want to call it meditation or prayer-time…I didn’t for a long time…call it anything, just give yourself permission to take a breather. Think of it as the corner stoplight, a time to pause before continuing.
How to start? Stop, close your eyes and concentrate on one breath in…one breath out…there you started.
Tomorrow do two, then three, then maybe move to minutes of quiet thoughtful breaths.
What do you have to lose?
