Poetry Starts: What is a Mother

WHAT IS A MOTHER

“Anything that creates, nurtures, or protects something else.”

That is what the dictionary defines as a mother

But there’s more, much more

She sits up with you because of that stomach-ache you promised

you wouldn’t get but you did

She chases that mean oh monster

out from under your bed just by turning on the light

She kisses boo-boos and wipes the tears

Then as you grow she becomes

That friend that is always there

The days go on and while you grow

You learn that no matter where you fall she’s there to pick you up

You change and discover the new only to be hurt

But mom’s always there to wipe the tears or just to share the laughter

Mom you’re always there

And if you ever need me

I’ll be there
