Reviewer: Brands as I see them


Reminder…you can’t be a writer, editor, reader, or reviewer without keeping a split mind 😉

Same as yesterday’s Reader’s post but add in how these brand usages take me out of the story’s reality. Removing me from your story is the last thing you want. You want me and your readers locked into the world and characters you’ve spent so long creating. Waited so long to be accepted and published.

Granted, I will give you brands can show the richness or poverty of a character. BUT, you know there are better ways to show these than dropping names.

Guns? Not sure.

Cars? Type of car…sedan, sports, 4-wheel…gives more than a name.

Brands can work but they are tricky. Think how long you want your book to live and use brands as the time machines they become.
