Editor: Don’t edit the fun reads

It’s important to take time away from even gratifying work. That’s always been reading for me which makes my time away a challenge.
Escaping into someone’s written work holds memories for me: being read to by elementary and a high school teacher(s) and my grandmother. Talking books with my parents. Sharing books with my now teen.
Turning off the editor brain has been difficult at times. I’ve seen my pet peeve overused words. Too many brand names. Common phrases that make no sense – he rolled his eyes; how does one take eyes out to roll? Over descriptions, repetitive descriptions
Most times I’ve had to have had a rough day in order to not turn editing-eye off. I don’t need to have been editing, the day could have been reading submissions…new authors learning the craft.
Nothing’s worse than wanting to escape and shut down and not being able to.
