Reviewer: Enjoyed, but…when not my genre – going in knowing

This is tricky because some would say why read a genre not to your liking anyways? The thing is a good story is a good story and if you don’t take the risk you may miss out on an author discovery.

The two items I want to stress here are:

  1. Always let the author know their book isn’t really your genre but something in their blurb grabbed your attention.
  2. When writing the final review, let your readers know this isn’t your norm. Let them know what you think works and whether or not you believe readers of the genre will enjoy.

Be honest.
