Poet: Why blog about poetry

Beyond the reasoning that I just like poetry? Poetry or prose is the one area where most in my class would groan and hate. There were too many rules. It sounded weird. Meaning was hidden and never clear, even after being explained. Besides, who knew what the writer – poet – meant, we weren’t there. Why not just write what you mean…straight and simple.

Songs were better.

So, one high school teacher had us write out the lyrics to a song and report on the meaning.

This was poetry?

This was prose?

Storytelling?

All of the above.

No. I do not write in metre or rhyme. I find pleasure reading these, but not writing these. I prefer my words to find their own pattern. Flow as they form. It’s not a case of can’t but a case of that’s not the poet I am.

Calling myself a Poet sounds so hoity. So – out there. But there you have me – a poet.

And that should explain the question – why blog about poetry.
